Assignment 4 - Vee Speers

FACTUAL: These photo's were taken by Vee Speers and she is an Australian photographer based in Paris. After studying at the Queensland College of Art, Speers worked as a stills photographer for the ABC television. Since moving to France in the early 90’s, Speers has worked in fashion, photojournalism and is today an established fine-art photo-grapher. Her work has appeared in many prestigious publications, and has been exhibited in London, Paris, Japan, Italy, Tunisia and South America, as well as in her native country.

CONTENT: These photo's were in the category 'The birthday party.'

TECHNICAL: I think these four photo's were taken in a studio and the light was used so there was no shadows and that the effect was quite soft.
AESTHETIC: I like these photo's because they seem different. I also like that the backgrounds white and the costume's that the children are dressed in. The photo of the girl with the scissors probably makes people react because she is a young girl holding scissors so they might worry that she'll hurt herself.

Assignment 3 - Depth of field

What is depth of field?

Depth of field is also known as depth of focus. When you focus on a person, for example, if the background and foreground are also sharp you have great depth of field. When the background and foreground are out of focus you have a shallow depth of field. By using a larger lens opening (lower number) you will have less depth of field. This can be a very pleasing effect because it draws attention to the subject of the picture instead of the background or other objects.

Assignment 3 - Lighting

What is lighting?

This photo was taken by Annie Leibovitz. I like this photo because I like the way the lights, that are very bright, shine down on her from above so the model who is posing, is the center of attention. Also the lights shine on her sparkly dress so that it stands out more. I think it was taken on a stage because of the lighting. The lights are lit up very brightly and they point mostly at the model who is the main focus of the photo. Her dress at the bottom looks like a cloud from the way the lights shine on it, so she seems like an angel.

Assignment 3 - Focal Point

What is Focal Point?

A focal point is the actual point of interest in the actual photo that you are taking.

For example: taking a picture of a flower, your main focus will be only the flower and nothing else.

In a perfect shot, the flower could be totally in focus and everything else in the background should be out of focus.

My Comments: The photographer who took this photo is called Vee speers. Her work has been widely exhibited and has been seen in publications including The Sunday Times, Harpers & Queen, Arena, Esquire, and Black & White Magazine. The photo above is from 'The Birthday Party'. I choose this photo because the girl seems to be the only focus in it. The photo is mostly white and light colours apart from the girls pink dress, which stands out the most. Also her big hair is the same shape as the balloon and her dress is rolled up so the attention is taken away from her legs.

Assignment 3 - Composition

 What is composition?

In photography, compostion means how the photograph is layed out and put together and where the picture is taken. It is the placement or arrangement of visual elements or ingredients for a aesthetic work of art.

My comments: The photographer is called Annie Leibovitz. I choose this photo because I like the way the light from the castle shines down to make a pretty effect, I also like that it's a recreation of the disney story of Cinderella leaving the ball.  

FIRST ANALYSIS

 The photographer is Annie Liebowitz, she was born on the 2nd of October, 1949. She is now 63 years old and she is an Amercian portrait photographer. The picture is recreating a disney image from the Little Mermaid, it's the evil octopus lady. It looks like a painting and I don't think it has much light. I like the background and the dark colours and that it's frictional and creative. Also she looks very evil and it's been made from a cartoon to real looking.
